"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."

Writing from the Dark Side
Heh! I started out calling this blog post "Blogging from the Darkside" and then went to "Writing from the Darkside" ...

Now, that's really great advice. It holds true for friends, critique partners, family, and a host of other people.
Excellent quote! I've never understood people who belittle someone else's ambitions and dreams, but I have observed the people who belittle them are those afraid to reach for the stars themselves.
Love Mark Twain quotes. Is there a book/anthology of all his quotes you (or anybody) knows of?
Great idea as who doesn't want to feel great?!

Wonderfully put! You just may end up on my "quote of the week..."

Helen, I agree. Sometimes even family's comments, though well intended, can be harsh on our dreams. For yours, my mom wanted me to give it all up and write kids books. She meant well, but she didn't understand what I truly wanted to write.

Marvin,
I don't know if there's a book or not. I got these great quotes from a site that I go to quite often for inspiration. It's http://amberdine.googlepages.com/beginning and they have different sections like fear, beginnings, rejections, etc. Check it out if you like the quotes I've posted.
